Background
The National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes & Narcotics (NACIN) stands as the apex training institution of the Government of India. Tasked with capacity building and skill development in Customs, Indirect Taxes, and Narcotics, NACIN operates under the administrative control of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance. With its headquarters in Faridabad, NACIN’s extensive network includes 16 Zonal Training Institutes, 2 Regional Training Institutes, a Centre of Excellence, and a Multi-Disciplinary School of Economic Intelligence.
In a significant expansion move, NACIN inaugurated a new campus on January 16, 2024, in Palasamudram Village,
Sri Sathya Sai Puttaparthi District, Andhra Pradesh. This campus, spread over 500 acres, will soon become the headquarters of NACIN. The grand opening event was graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other distinguished dignitaries, marking a milestone in the government’s efforts to train the next generation of customs,
tax, and narcotics officers.
Challenges
The establishment of the new campus presented unique challenges, particularly in securing reliable and high-speed internet connectivity in a remote location like Palasamudram Village. NACIN had a clear vision for a strong, reliable network capable of handling an initial 2 Gbps bandwidth, with scalability up to 5 Gbps to support its expanding programs and international collaborations. This connectivity was crucial for the seamless operation of their training modules, administrative functions, and secure communication channels.
